The Beauty and the Beast

After weeks of fans battling it out on our Once Upon a Time ship bracket, we finally have a winner: Rumbelle! Perhaps to no one’s surprise, the two ships standing in the finals were the uber-popular Rumbelle (Rumplestiltskin/Belle) and Swan Queen (Emma/Regina). The turnout was overwhelming.

There were over 380,000 votes. Both ships brought in hundreds of thousands. We’ve always known Once Upon a Time fans are dedicated, but this is a whole new level. Both sides should be very proud of themselves — clearly, people are passionate about the Once villains and their potential redemption via love.

After a fierce week-long battle, Rumbelle came out on top. Congrats, guys! We hope this puts a smile on your face — after Belle and Rumple’s parting on Season 2, Episode 22: “And Straight On ‘Til Morning,” this ship could use some good news. (Seriously — the writers give us Belle’s memories back, just to rip them apart again?! That’s plain cruel.)

To celebrate, take a walk down memory lane with Rumbelle’s best moments, in GIF form! Le sigh. It’s easy to see why so many people have been won over by this new take on a classic story, even if the writers never let them stay happy for long.

Rumbelle is up against Swan Queen in the final round of Wet Paint’s poll for favorite couple on OUaT. They are currently losing (42.96%-57.04%). This round closes Monday, May 13, at 10 a.m. EST. Voting is unlimited. Interesting info about reCAPTCHA, the program used by Wet Paint: it is actually a service that lends your human eyes to help decipher text that is difficult for scanners to read, in order to digitize old editions of the New York Times and Google Books. As such, one word will be a real word that is straight across (the word you are transcribing) and one word will be wiggly gibberish (the word you are actually being tested on). So if you spend some time voting for Rumbelle, you can tell people you were participating in a worldwide project for reclamation of old text sources, one word at a time. You know Belle would approve because she does love books! :)
