It’s your talisman
When Rumpel tried to press Belle into looking at the cup, when he tried to give her something that reminded her of who she was, I think he was on the right lines, but I think the problem was that he was looking in the wrong direction.
The cup is theirs. It’s not just hers. It’s not just his. It was a symbol of what they were together, but not who and what she was as a person. That was why it would never have worked, had she looked at it.
The key, however, is a reminder of who she really is. It is for the woman who is clever, knowledgeable, curious, investigative. The library was the first thing she had that was wholly hers, where she was not just Sir Maurice’s daughter, or the Dark One’s housekeeper, or even Gold’s girlfriend.
The library is the key to knowledge and that’s why I would love it if the library was the key to her memories.
